Having decided not to renew their lease and instead purchase real property to relocate their head offices to, this advertising firm requested that the new space set a precident around which the office culture and branded image would also be rebuilt.
With a program that included not only improving upon their old, cubicle-ridden, 'vanilla-box' environment (which wasn't difficult to do) but also accommodating more staff within a smaller floor area, careful thought had to be given to workstation anthropometrics and office partitioning.
An open plan with custom-designed, egg-shaped workstations maximized personal space and circulation requirements without sacrificing design aesthetics. Panelite (a translucent, lightweight panel comprised of a metal honeycomb core sandwiched between thin, tinted acrylic panels) was employed as a primary 'skywall' feature, as part office walls, part artificial sky ceiling, running the length of the open office area and helping to disperse the only natural light emanating from one end.
